# How to Remove an Account

> Learn how to disconnect a financial institution from MyTruv.

If you no longer want MyTruv to track accounts from a given institution, you can **disconnect** that institution at any time.

A note on what this does: MyTruv removes accounts at the **connection** level, not one account at a time. Disconnecting removes the entire connection along with every account linked through it. If several accounts are linked through the same bank and you only want one hidden, there's currently no way to remove just one - you'd have to disconnect the whole institution.

## How to disconnect

1. Open [Banks, payroll & credit](https://app.mytruv.com/data/connections) - it's in the sidebar on the web, and under **Settings** on iOS
2. Choose **Disconnect** for the connection you want to remove - on the web it's in the connection card's menu, and on iOS it's on the connection's detail screen
3. Confirm when MyTruv asks you to

## What happens when you disconnect

* The connection and every account under it disappear from your accounts list
* Associated data (transactions, balances, history) is removed
* Your net worth recalculates without those accounts
* Spending, cash flow, and income figures update to exclude the removed data

<Warning>Disconnecting removes the connection and all associated data permanently. This cannot be undone. To bring the data back, you'll need to reconnect and let MyTruv sync from scratch.</Warning>

<Note>Disconnecting from MyTruv does not affect your account at the institution in any way. It only removes the connection inside MyTruv.</Note>

<Note>If you've used the **Hide** or **Change category** actions on individual transactions, those changes are tied to specific transactions and don't carry over after a disconnect-and-reconnect - the transactions will come back visible and in their original category. **Recategorizations applied to "all transactions from this merchant"** are the exception: those rules are stored at the merchant level, so they keep applying to that merchant's transactions - including the ones that come back after you reconnect. See [Custom Category Names](/transactions/custom-category-names).</Note>
