# Using Voice Input

> Speak your questions to the assistant instead of typing them - iOS-only.

You can ask the assistant a question by voice instead of typing. **Voice input is available on iOS only**. On the web, type your question in the chat input.

## How voice input works on iOS

1. Open the **Assistant** tab.
2. Tap the **microphone** icon at the right side of the chat input. (The mic icon replaces the send arrow when the input is empty.)
3. The first time you use voice, iOS asks for microphone and speech-recognition permissions. Accept both for voice input to work.
4. Speak your question. Your speech is transcribed live into the input field as you talk.
5. Stop in one of two ways:
   * Tap the **stop** icon to end the recording manually.
   * Let it auto-stop after a brief pause in your speech.
6. Review the transcription, edit anything that's off, then tap **send**.

## Tips for better transcription

* **Speak naturally** - no special commands needed, just ask the way you would in conversation.
* **Speak at a normal pace** and enunciate proper nouns (merchant names, account names) clearly.
* **Review before sending** - speech recognition isn't perfect; numbers, dates, and unusual names often need a quick tap-edit before you send.

## If voice input doesn't work

* **Permission denied** - iOS shows an alert with a shortcut to the Settings app where you can re-enable Microphone or Speech Recognition for MyTruv.
* **Microphone not picking you up** - quiet your surroundings, hold the phone a bit closer, and try again.
* **Wrong language transcribed** - voice input follows your device's primary language setting.

## Example voice queries

* "How much did I spend on food this week?"
* "What's my net worth?"
* "Show me my upcoming bills"
* "Compare my spending this month to last month"

<Tip>Voice is especially handy for quick lookups when you don't want to stop and type - "What's my Cash Flow this month?", "How much in subscriptions?", and so on.</Tip>
