# Browsing by Category

> How to focus on a single spending category to see its transactions and trends.

There's no separate "browse by category" screen in MyTruv - category drill-down happens through the Spending and Transactions surfaces. Both platforms support the same core flow, plus iOS has a couple of quicker shortcuts.

## The main path (both platforms)

On the **Transactions** page, apply a **Category** filter to see every transaction in one or more categories, across any date range. Combine it with other filters (account, amount, date) to narrow further.

See [Filtering Transactions by Category](/transactions/filtering-by-category) for the details.

## iOS shortcuts

iOS adds two faster ways into a single category:

* **From Spending** - open the **Spending** tab, scroll to the breakdown card, and tap a category row. A sheet opens with every transaction in that category for the selected month.
* **From Search** - on the **Search** tab, type a category name (e.g. "groceries"). The results include matching transactions plus a shortcut into the spending-by-category view.

## Going from category to chart

For visual breakdowns (donut, ranked list, totals), see [Spending by Category](/spending/spending-by-category) - that's where the category breakdown chart lives on the Spending page.

## What category drill-downs are good for

* **Budgeting** - see exactly how much you spent in a category for a given period
* **Auditing** - scan every charge in a category to catch errors, unexpected fees, or stale subscriptions
* **Goal tracking** - if you're trying to spend less on dining out or rideshares, the category view is the place to check

<Tip>If a category is consistently surprising you, drill into it for a couple of months in a row - you usually find one or two specific merchants driving the increase.</Tip>
