# Using a PIN

> Set up and use a 4-digit PIN to lock MyTruv on your iOS device.

<Note>PIN lock is currently available on iOS. The web app uses your Auth0 session - sign out from Settings when you're done on a shared computer.</Note>

A PIN locks the MyTruv app behind a 4-digit code. Use it if you'd rather type a code than authenticate with biometrics.

## Setting up a PIN

1. Open MyTruv and go to **Settings → Security & Privacy**.
2. Tap **Create PIN**.
3. Enter a 4-digit PIN.
4. Confirm by entering the same PIN again.

You'll see a confirmation once the PIN is saved.

## Changing your PIN

1. Open **Settings → Security & Privacy**.
2. Tap **Change PIN**.
3. Enter your current PIN.
4. Enter your new 4-digit PIN.
5. Confirm by entering the new PIN again.

## PIN and biometric authentication are mutually exclusive

You can use a PIN **or** biometric authentication, but not both at the same time. Setting up a PIN disables biometric, and enabling biometric replaces an existing PIN. To switch, toggle the one you want in Security & Privacy.

## Too many wrong attempts

After 5 wrong PIN entries in a row, the keypad locks for 30 seconds with a visible countdown ("Try again in N seconds"). Once the countdown finishes, you can keep entering PINs. The lock screen also offers a **Log out** button you can use at any time to sign out and start fresh.

## PIN best practices

* **Choose a PIN you'll remember.** PIN recovery is limited - if you can't remember it, contact support.
* **Don't reuse PINs.** Avoid the same PIN you use for your bank card, phone, or other apps.
* **Avoid obvious patterns.** Sequences like 1234, repeated digits like 0000, or your birth year are easy to guess.
* **Keep it private.** Never share your PIN.
