Beyond MyTruv’s built-in categories, you can create your own custom category name and assign it to a transaction - handy when none of the default categories match how you think about your spending.
Creating custom category names on iOS is available in MyTruv iOS 1.6 and later.

Create a custom category

On iOS - open the transaction detail, tap the Category row, type a name that doesn’t exist yet, then tap Create “<name>”.On the web (app.mytruv.com/data/transactions) - open the transaction’s menu, choose Change category, and type a new name to create it.
After creating the name, choose how widely to apply it:
  • Only this transaction - applies the custom category to just this one.
  • All [merchant] - applies it to every transaction from that merchant, past and future (a merchant rule).
Category names have a length limit and can’t be made up only of symbols.

How it looks

A transaction with a custom category shows a Custom badge next to the category, so you can tell your own categories apart from the ones MyTruv assigned. Your custom name also becomes a reusable option the next time you recategorize.

Changing or reverting

To change it, recategorize the transaction again and pick a different category or create another custom name. To go back to your bank’s original categorization, use Restore bank defaults - see Wrong Transaction Category.
