The Spending breakdown is the most-used view on the Spending page. It shows what share of your spending goes to each category - or, with one tap, each merchant.

Where to find it

The breakdown sits at the bottom of the Spending page on both platforms - see Spending Overview for the full layout.

Category vs merchant

A toggle at the top of the card switches the breakdown between the two views:
  • By category - groups spending into categories like Food & Drink, Shopping, Transportation, etc.
  • By merchant - groups every transaction from the same merchant together (so all your Amazon charges roll up under “Amazon”)
The selected month and other filters stay the same when you toggle.

What the breakdown shows

  • Donut chart - the proportion of each category (or merchant) in the total
  • Ranked list - for each entry: name, dollar amount, percentage of total, and transaction count
  • “Other” bucket - the long tail rolled into one entry so the top entries stay readable
On the web - the list shows up to the top 10 entries with everything else collapsed into Other. On iOS - the list shows the top categories or merchants ranked by amount.

Drilling into a category or merchant

On iOS - tap any category or merchant in the list. A sheet opens with the filtered transactions for that group in the selected month. On the web - clicking a slice or row highlights that segment in the donut for emphasis. To see the underlying transactions, jump to the Transactions page and apply a category or merchant filter.

Picking a month

Both platforms have a month selector on the card. This Month and Last Month are quick options, with a dropdown for older months.
If a category looks higher than expected, tap into it (iOS) or use the Transactions page filters (web) to see exactly which charges drove the total.
